Apoplexy
It is a sudden "fit or stroke" of unconsciousness usually caused by cereberal embolism, haemorrhage or thrombosis. (Embolism is the obstruction of a blood vessel by the impaction of a solid body e.g. , thrombi fat-globules or tumour cells, or by air bubble. Thrombosis - intravascular formation of a blood clot).
In apoplexy, there is stertorous (loud, snoring, snorous) breathing, in continence of urine and faeces with varying degree of hemiplegia. It occurs mostly between 50-60 years of age.
Causes
(1) Arterio-sclerosi, (2) Gout (3) alcoholism (4) syphilis (5) emotional excitement - that increases blood pressure and later becomes the cause of rupture of blood vessel in the brain - then patient remains in coma for days together and ultimately death happens. But in some cases, the patient, with proper medical treatment, comes into consciousness.
I have tackled a few cases of apoplexy during my 20 years practice. The patient, who went into semi state of unconsciousness due to raised blood pressure, were cured with indicated medicine like Bell, Arnica, Glon, Opium.
Apoplectic fits of unconsciousness
A patient, aged 43, had great rise in the blood pressure 190/130m m. of mercury at 7P.M. Fell into apoplectic fits of unconsciousness with trembling of body and tongue, stammering voice, snoring - or snorous breathing. She was heading towards coma with great dizziness, closing of eyes, Puffed red hot face, swollen eyes, bursting headache at the beginning fit of apoplexy, as she reported it later on. Patient was very irritable, nervous, with chronic tendency of H.B. P.
Bell = 30, in cold water and FP6x, KM6x, CP6x, NP6x, NS6x - 2 grains dose in alternation after every 10-15-30 minutes, total 6 doses, reduced her H.B. P. to 170/108. She slept normally in the night. 30.10.84 - had emotional excitement with shooting up of B.P. = 190/130 with all above said symptoms. Glon -30, in alternation with combined dose of Ratiwolfia - Q + Crat. Q + Passiflora. Q (1:1:1) 10 drops dose, after every 15-30 minutes and B.P. was lowered to 160/118 with total 6 doses. Same treatment was continued after, Illry 4 hours - for about 2 weeks, and patient did not have such attacks, in future. Whenever she felt problem of H.B. P. she took Glon and Mother tinctures combination and remained normal in blood pressure of 140/90m m. Boil. of mercury.
